Halekulani Okinawa will celebrate its 7th anniversary on July 26, 2026. As the second Halekulani, we have welcomed many guests worldwide since our opening. To mark our 7th anniversary, We will present a “Gastronomic” dinner event and special coupons that is available for accomodation reservations via our official website.
7th Anniversary Special Collaboration Dinner
This special occasion will feature a one-night-only collaboration dinner between Chef Ken Sakamoto of "cenci," who has been serving as a consulting chef at innovative “SHIROUX” since November 2025, and Chef Yusaku Nakamura, originally from Okinawa and head chef of the Michelin one-star Spanish restaurant “KOKE” in Kyoto.
Comment from Consulting Chef Ken Sakamoto:
“I am truly delighted to create cuisine alongside Chef Nakamura, with whom I have a close relationship in both my professional and personal life, here in his hometown of Okinawa. Bringing with us the refined sensibilities of Kyoto’s culinary culture, where we are both based, we will elevate Okinawa’s abundant local ingredients through the techniques of Italian and Spanish cuisine. This special collaboration marks our first time working together, and I sincerely hope everyone will enjoy this extraordinary gastronomic experience.”
Chef Ken Sakamoto Chef Yusaku Nakamura
Chef Yusaku Nakamura, originally from Okinawa, trained at Michelin-starred establishments such as "Édition Koji Shimomura" and "Ca’ Sent" after graduating from high school. He further refined his craft by traveling across Asia, immersing himself in diverse culinary cultures. After contributing to the launch of "Maruta" in Tokyo, he opened "KOKE" in 2021. Centered on the theme of “fire and water,” he established a unique culinary style built around wood-fired cooking and natural underground spring water. Remarkably, the restaurant earned its first Michelin star just five months after opening, and has continued to retain its star every year since.
At the heart of Chef Nakamura’s cuisine lies the Okinawan philosophy of “using every part of life to its fullest,” reflecting his roots. He is also an active member of the Ryukyu Cuisine Preservation Society. While presenting a modern gastronomy that fuses Okinawan traditions with carefully selected ingredients from Kyoto, he is also engaged in marine conservation as a member of "Chefs for the Blue." As a rising leader shaping the future of food, he is highly acclaimed both in Japan and internationally.
